John Fischer has been mixing his
unique combination of singing, speaking and humor for a
variety of audiences now for over twenty-five years.
In the late 60's, John recorded "The Cold Cathedral", an
album of Christian folksongs that was a part of a spiritual
renewal--a search for meaning that marked a new quest for
inner solutions to global problems. Not only was John giving
birth to a new expression of Christianity, he was also
writing and recording songs that youth groups, Young Life
clubs, and retreat groups across the nation would later sing
over and over again--songs that would literally help shape a
new generation. Songs such as "Have You Seen Jesus My
Lord?", "Look All Around You", and "The All Day Song" ("Love
him in the morning...").
Now, twelve albums and fourteen books later, John still has
the same objective. He is an artist driven by the desire to
utilize his creative talents to stir us to a new
understanding of our faith and how we live it out in our
culture. His multi-faceted talents of songwriting, speaking,
singing, authoring and lecturing reflect the many angles by
which John carries on a spiritual dialogue with real life
and real people. These talents have kept him in demand as a
concert artist and speaker for over two decades.
Though John is knowledgeable in biblical truth, art,
philosophy, and popular culture, his insights never come
from some high and lofty place, but from that human,
vulnerable place, where we can recognize them as being true
because they match the common experience of us all.
His music is a challenge to think, and a celebration of the
presence of God in the midst of our ordinary lives. A John
Fischer event is not going to provide answers to life as
much as it will provide hope and celebration in the midst of
life's questions. John's music is a place where faith
becomes real. Pretense falls away.
As a writer, John's award-winning monthly column in
Contemporary Christian Music (CCM ) magazine was a tribute
to his staying power and his importance as a trusted voice
within contemporary Christianity. Real Christians Don't
Dance was a hardback best seller in 1988. John's first
foray into fiction, Saint Ben, published in 1993 by
Bethany House, received unsolicited high praise in
Christianity Today and a Silver Angel award for fiction. His
most recent books continue to receive high praise and
accolades.
He currently writes the daily devotional material for
purposedrivenlife.com, a regular column in Relevant
magazine, and a column for Chuck Colson's Breakpoint web
site.
John graduated from Wheaton College, Illinois, in 1969. He
studied the ministry under the leadership of the late Ray C.
Stedman at Peninsula Bible Church, Palo Alto, California
during the '70s, and has served as Artist in Residence at
Gordon College in Massachusetts where he lived during most
of the '80s. He now resides with his wife, Marti and adopted
son in Laguna Beach, California. John and Marti also have
two grown children.
"John Fischer pushes and pulls. He pushes us
out to new borders of faith while always pulling us back to
the centrality of Christ."
Jay Kesler: President Emeritus, Taylor University
"John Fischer does a job on some of the sacred cows that
have been idols for many of us. Fischer works through the
confinements of religiosity into the freedom of
spirituality."
Tony Campolo, Sociologist, Eastern College
"He challenged the Christians at our University to break the
mold we live in, stop being self-righteous, get in touch
with our sin, and return to the cross daily. "

Love Him in the Morning
Reflecting on his groundbreaking 1960s "All Day Song,"
Fischer shows you how simple a relationship with God can be:
Love and be loved. Learn to experience him in the morning,
when all is fresh and new; at night, when we need his grace
and forgiveness; and during the hours in between where we
live every day.

Fearless Faith
In this book John Fischer issues a wake-up call to believers
who have retreated to the safety of the contemporary
Christian subculture, urging them to head out into the world
to change lives through acts of love, intelligent
conversation, and genuine compassion for others. So what do
most Christians today need protection from? Unfortunately,
nothing answers Fischer.
Christian radio, Christian television, Christian schools,
and Christian news and politics--if we buy the whole
"Christian" package where is the danger? According to
Fischer, Jesus doesn't want us to be isolated in a Christian
world. He wants us in the world--in the dialogue--making a
contribution in every walk of life from a Christian
perspective, giving representation and an apologetic for
faith in the midst of culture. This book helps those who
desire to affect their world.

12 Steps for the Recovering Pharisee (like me)
Think there aren't any Pharisees left today? Think again!
Pharisaism---the tendency to measure righteousness by
outward appearance and rigid lists of "do's" and
"don'ts"---is alive and well in today's church. Drawing from
Scripture and personal experience, award-winning songwriter
Fischer provides sure-fire ways to stamp out self-righteous
legalism in favor of God's amazing, all-sufficient grace.

On a Hill Too Far Away
Using the powerful metaphor of a fifteen foot wooden hewn
cross bolted into the concrete in front of the platform of a
small Connecticut church so that it stands in the way of
everything, this book explores the centrality of the cross
to a Christian faith for all time, while looking for reasons
for the cross's apparent absence in contemporary
Christianity. This is an oddity in a time when many of our
postmodern churches do not have any crosses in them at all.
Is contemporary Christianity only the old message dressed
up, or has the message itself been altered in the process of
making it appealing to twentieth century life? What if there
is something intrinsic to the message that flies in the face
of any culture?
